History of Staircraft
1977-1992
After 12 years employment in the residential construction industry in a variety of trades, February 1989 I became a licensed General Contractor as Rockwood Construction Company located in Kirkland. My specialties included:
- foundations, framing, trim carpentry, drafting & design
1993-2001
After realizing a few personal strengths geared toward creative carpentry and attention to detail, I focused my business toward the specialty of staircase and mantel design and construction.
- sub-contracted labor to Hansen Woodworks/Northwest Mantel and a variety of builder friends.
- developed the custom and remodel side of the stair trade in 1996 and enjoyed this so much that in 1998 I adopted the name Staircraft to better describe my business with an appropriate name to the trade.
2002-Present
Staircase design and construction continues to grow as an independent industry in Western WA. Exciting new advances in technology and material supply pave the way to streamlining our business to better serve our client base. I am blessed to be paid to do what I love to do.

A quote from my 8th grade school yearbook, in which a friend hand wrote next to her picture -
"Remember me as you slide down the banister of life
...as the splinter in your butt !"Thanks Marita! They'll probably put that on my headstone. That's a good butt painful reminder to always sand the handrails well, and yes, I will always remember you in jest that way.
